I'm learning how to build a proposal generator today and man am I having a lot of fun! I have so many ideas already, I'm having trouble containing the ADHD urge to wander off and explore all the new possibilities.
I'm building alongside the tutorial, not just passively watching. So it takes longer to complete because I run into hiccups every now and then. Why this doesn't work like the tute. Okay go back 15 minutes, review every step, what did I miss. Try clicking other things. Read the community forum for clues. Try refreshing the page. Try deleting and redoing.
But it's all good. All part of practise so when I build it for others and an issue crops up, I be like "Ah, not to worry loveduck, uncle will fix it for ya." (And no, I do not talk to clients like that).
Automating the heck out of things is like every developer's wet dream.
On the personal side, I'm spiralling. I won't go into detail but I'm still not over Dad's reaction yesterday to a difficult topic that he and Mum refuse to address. In Singapore (where I'm based), I'd have all the mental space I need to heal. But while I'm here at their place, I guess I'll have to deal with it by exercising more and burying myself in work. I don't know if it's the best way but at least I'm exercising.
Reminding myself that none of it matters. Keep my own goals in mind and keep looking straight ahead.
Today's plan was to spend 3 hours on client work, and 2 hours on Maker School Day 2 tasks.
Did not check all the boxes for the day, but I ended the day feeling good, in spite of earlier emotions. After doing some self-talk, I actually felt happy and quite hopeful for the future.
I have a degree in Marketing Management from University of Otago, New Zealand. I ran a successful restaurant for 13 years in Singapore, a brutally competitive market for F&B. I also ran a bakery for 7 of those years. I sold both businesses for 6 figures in 2019.
Then I taught myself to code, and have been working in software since. In 2021, I was hired as General Manager for a restaurant software startup, where I helped market and grow the app to $400k/year revenue.
On the side, I started building my own small projects, aimed at near-passive income. So began a 10,000-hour-long experiment to see if I can make $10k/month by "f*cking around and finding out". This blog is a daily record of the real hours spent & dollars earned.
